"La regla"

When I ask patients about "su regla" I get blank stares. "Periodo menstrual" seems more widely understood, but I'm curious what other terms people might more commonly use. The largest Spanish-speaking groups in my city are Puerto Rican, Dominican, Colombian, and Peruvian.
regla = periodo
Sí entre amigos as muy común hablar de "la regla." Cuando hablo con pacientes, por lo general, uso la palabra: "periodo." Gracias por participar...en el foro. Y a ver, si alguien más nos puede dar otra opinión sobre este asunto.
Yes, among friends it is very common to talk about "la regla." When I talk with patients I generally use the work "periodo."
