In this episode we practice expressing when or how long something occurs.

Expresiones de tiempo

Hace 3 años que estudio español.
Estudio español desde hace 3 años.
Llevo (o tengo) 3 años estudiando español.

Acciones que ocurría en el pasado:

Hacía 3 años que estudiaba español.
Estudiaba español desde hacía 3 años.
Llevaba 3 años estudiando español.

Para los próximos ejemplos, lean las oraciones en inglés primero y traten de traducirlos. Después escuchen las traducciones en español. Noten que hay otras maneras de decir cada uno usando: hacer que, desde hacer, o llevar. Yo solo doy un ejemplo.

1. How long has it been that you get mad so easily?
2. After hearing the news, he became still (callado).
3. Three years ago she went crazy.
4. (OOPS!! I FORGOT TO RECORD THIS ONE!! ) She's been going crazy for three years. Hace 3 años que ella se vuelve loca.
5. She had been going crazy for three years when her brother showed up (asomarse).
6. He studied on the weekends and finally became a Christian.
7. Before arriving to the United States, Mr. Green worked very hard and became rich.
8. This is the second time that she has gone blind.
9. She went blind yesterday.
10. Before becoming pregnant, Maria hadn't gone to the barbarshop for a long time.
11. Please don't get that way with me, it drives me crazy.
12. Two years ago the catepillar (la oruga) had been becoming a butterfly but all of a sudden it got sad and died.
13. For many years her mother wanted her to earn a living as a waitress.
14. We spent a week loving each other like crazy.
15. We have been loving each other like crazy for weeks.
16. It's been ages since I've not seen Maria and others have told me she ended up poor.
17. I was living in Mexico for a month, then I went home and spent two months watching soap operas.
18. Please don't end up bald. I like women with lots of hair.
19. A couple of minutes ago, the witch put a spell on the prince and turned him into a frog.
